Value investors had a tough decade where their strategy has been lagging the overall bull market in equities. Low interest rates due to the quantitative easing of central banks, technological disruption, concentration on a few “winners” and success of passive investing left little room to manoeuvre for stock pickers and value investors. Covid-19 has painfully reset financial markets. While many investors focus on the short term depressed earnings, value investors are now gaining an edge by looking through the current crisis and value business on their long term earnings potential. They suddenly discover a sea of opportunities as the fog of war is lifting over the coming months.
